If the music industry was a high school they would be the leather jacket wearing, cigarette rolling, shady guys who lurked in shadowy corners of intrigue and general awesome. These guys effortlessly ate all the other snazzy bands up, bagging some sweet Grammies along the way.
Stuffy wiki fact: The name Black Keys, came from a schizophrenic artist named Alfred McMoore that the pair knew; he would leave incoherent messages on their answering machines referring to their fathers as "black keys" such as "D flat" when he was upset with them.
The guitarist and the drummer duo are a force (and have the force) who have made many bands run away or resort to tight pants and pop. Musicians of brilliant quality, songwriters of considerable kickassity and men of certain appeal, the Black Keys have made the music community stand up and take notice and a million fangirls swoon repeatedly.
Fancypant Fact: They’ve made a short musical called Howlin’ for you which has half naked women, chainsaws, fights, gadgets. Everything they touch is just so cool man.
Their sound is gritty, and refreshingly unpolished. They’ve steadily, with unfailing smugness, worked towards carving their niche with a ballsy chainsaw.
Quick History
Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, released their first album, The big Come up, in 2002. The entire album was recorded in the drummer, Patrick Carney's basement. The album, obviously, was quite the success.
They came up with their second album, Thickfreakness in 2003. It was well received by the critics.
After that there was no looking back for this awesome pawsome. A heady succession of awesome albums followed. Rubber
Factory, recorded in an abandoned factory, gained instant popularity. Attack and release, Blackroc (a collaborative project with various hip hop artists), Brothers, bought their fan following to ginormous proportions.
Their new album, El Camino received mixed responses from their fans. Some said that they sold out by being more polished and soft, while the others worshipped it as a new dimension of their music. Whatever the responses were, El camino, as their rest of the stuff, is a clear winner.
Listening to the album is like speeding on a dusty Mexican road, pleasantly drunk with blood on your hands and three cars chasing you. The music is gritty, catchy and has more balls than three bulls combined as they venture into the unknown with perfect ease.
Must Listen
Little Black Submarines
It starts softish and bob dylanish, and just when you’ve relaxed a little, with your cat peacefully sleeping of your lap, the song rises and slaps you on the face with some of the most kickass music this year has come up with. It shows that Black Keys are not just a garage blues band anymore.
Everlasting light
Fangirl fact: "Everlasting Light" at #11 on the Best Singles of 2010
Everlasting light defines Black Keys. The video defines the song.
Narcissistic genius!
Tighten Up

I wanted love, I needed love
