Making a top ten list is no easy job. Not one bit. The compiler of the list might try his level best to be as fair and accurate as possible, but then you can never please everyone, can you?

But then there’s the sunny side of it. I get to make the top ten list and I generally don’t give a flying fu*k about others’ opinion. And the best part, the ‘others’ give a surprisingly big damn to my opinion. Life’s good man!

This one’s a list of the Top Ten Rock Songs of 2010. I obviously had some outright favorites, and then there were the debatable (You know this one punk called Vivek right?! Has to meddle with every-damn-thing!). After hours of research and aggressive debates Whackk brings to you the glittering final list. Here we go :

Oh by the way, that whole thing about ‘hours of research and debate’…ya, I lied!
So now, Here We Go :

10. Dog Days Are Over – Florence And The Machine

Don’t know of any other song by them. But this one surely stands out because its so different to the regular rock tracks being churned out of labels like a factory. Decent lyrics and music, the standout has to be the vocals by who I am guessing must be ‘Florence’. :P

9. Beat The Devil’s Tattoo – Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

This is a track I had to fight off some serious resistance from people to put into this list. Its one of those which is simply loved and licked by some and detested by others. For me, this track works wonders. Heavy, slow and stylish. This is what ‘Men’ were supposed to be! Its got testosterone all over it. Some really heavy lines like ‘Everyone’s a king when there’s no one left to pawn’. Give it a listen if you haven’t already.

8. Kings and Queens – 30 Seconds To Mars

30 Seconds To Mars is clearly a crowd favourite band. Reason is their sound. They have evolved apparently. Sadly nowadays, evolution means introducing more pop sounds in your music. Nevertheless, their evolution has certainly worked. Technically this is a late 2009 song, but then technically they’re not all that great to make it to this list. This one’s for the crowd!

7. The Crow And the Butterfly – Shinedown

Shinedown’s a band that’s only gone one way since its inception-> Upwards. They’ve grown, in terms of sound, stature and naturally ,fans. This track is a kind of post-break up track. But Shinedown make it sound like a break up’s worth it!

6. Isolation – Alter Bridge

Regular awesomeness from an awesome band. The single from AB-III, this track made waves even before the video was launched. Its raced quickly onto AB’s top ten song list. Its hard, up-tempo and lyrically decent. And then come in Myles Kennedy’s vocals to make it awesomer. Damn, there I go again praising him. Just read this for more on this.

5. Tighten Up – The Black Keys

This track I heard only while preparing this list. And still it made it to number 5 speaks enough in its favor. For all you know, it might’ve been higher up on this list had I heard it a couple of weeks earlier. Or NOT!! Nonetheless, a really sweet song. And to back that, its got a video worth watching once atleast. Because if you watch it once, take my word on this, you’ll wanna watch it again.

4. Radioactive – Kings Of Leon

Theirs was one of the most anticipated album of 2010. One could say that they did not really live up to it throughout, but this one track surely made the cut. And mind you, the ‘cut’ in their case was a very high standard set by their previous masterpieces. A really good song with the ‘humming’ factor going for it.

3. Starlight – Slash feat Myles Kennedy

Slash went solo this year. Nobody extected much of this album, afterall it was a guitarist’s solo album. And out came this album like an explosion. Big names on each and every track. We reviewed it too [LINK]. But the standout guy was probably the least popular (until then) vocalist : Myles Kennedy. Starlight is a lovely hopeful, feel-good song. But that not all, its got Myles Kennedy singing at a scale the world thought only existed on keyboards. Unbelievable stuff!

2. Waiting For The End – Linkin Park

This was ‘THE’ most anticipated album of 2010 going by their popularity throughout the world. Linkin Park threw something at the world which , not everyone, was ready for. It was an all new sound, experimentation written all over it. A big hit with many, and not so hit with some. But ‘waiting for the end’ satisfied one and all with its brilliance. A short beautiful track that builds to an addictive finale. It’s a deserving number 2.

1. Back From Cali – Slash

Oh Slash!!
Damn, Myles!!
WOW!
Don’t get it still?
ITS FRIGGIN NUMERO UNO FOR A REASON. GET THE GOD-DAMN SONG NOW!!!

This restores my faith – Rock is still alive!!

I would give the black keys

I would give the black keys track more points for it's video than the song itself. And i dont really think back from cali deserved the top spot, could've been lower down the list....
