Education is one thing everyone has an opinion about. In fact apart from boring old people, I’ve never heard any one make a completely happy statement about education. “I was born intelligent, education ruined me.” or “We don’t need no education.” are like anthems to the average wannabe hippie. Bored juvenile randomness or not, the question begs a lot of asking, “Is our education system really helping us grow?”
I am a massive Sir Ken Robinson fan...
I am an Assamese, and I am not a Chutia. No, it’s not funny. And that’s what the world is coming at, when hundreds of accounts belonging to Assamese people of the Chutia community were blocked by Facebook as they were thought to be false and fake. Firstly, my people take such shit very seriously, I guess anybody would. This is something that I have been expecting since I had an animated talk with a friend of mine about the fate of a community that is known by ‘Sutiya’. I...

I have often held that despite the plethora of scams that have been obfuscating the image of a once-meritorious Indian National Congress over the last two years, the party could have made up for lost ground through numerous ways, simply because there is no other singular faction that is capable of running the government. State elections of various states have been or are going to be held and the Congress party is perched uncomfortably. The results of the municipal elections held in a few...

We pride ourselves in being the largest democracy in the world, replete with all kinds of freedoms and liberties. Our constitution grants us freedom of speech, so that we can call that spade, what it is, or the freedom of movement, which means that I can pack my bags and kick it in Shillong if I have everything I need to survive and don’t kill someone on my way there. We have the right and the duty to choose our government through fair elections or the RTI which means the government...
The UP (Uttar Pradesh for the specially gifted) legislative assembly elections are due since the last 5-year term since 2007 is almost over, and the democracy that our country is, we must dutifully carry out the impending circus, with appropriate diligence nevertheless.
But, then, what’s the big deal? Isn’t it just like any other state legislative assembly election? Why make a big deal out of it to begin with?
If and when we dig deeper, we’d realize it is a big damn deal! We...
These days when anyone says to me “Hey we’re planning a flash mob, want to join?” or “Hey did you hear about the flash mob that happened there” I’m unashamed to scoff and wave my hand off at the person and even take disinterest in the conversation after that if it continued in the light of the same. No, I do not hate flash mobs and neither am I an anti flash mob-er (I just created this phrase). I’m just one of those people who are tired of talking about...
If you have never heard of the words ‘revolution’ ‘Egypt’, ‘Libya’ or ‘Gaddafi’ this year, you should probably be hitting Google rather than celebrating the New Year, because all that this world has been screaming from the Middle East this year is something which the more concerned people would know as the Jasmine Revolution. What took off as a very noble cause, with a lot of help from Facebook (yeah, now you remember!) has gone through so many...
International news is abuzz with news about the OWS movement, gori mems and unclejis holding up hoardings and similar andolan-type stuff outside tall, fancy buildings and people kicking it in tents outside those buildings. Important people making rehearsed statements about OWS, people yelling OWS and stuff that looks straight out of a period film in a modern setting happening is just not an everyday thing, which begs to be asked, ”What is the OWS movement?” Is it some new Oh-what-...
A slap is one of the most purest and unadulterated expressions of mankind. It builds up inside you, and just when you can’t take it anymore, it explodes out of you, making you feel so much better. Like a beautiful, glorious sneeze. Even the person who gets slapped feels an instant tension release, right before the humiliation. Your mind goes blank, there’s ringing in your ears and the world stops for a moment.
Also, The last line sounds like a cheesy pop song. If only it was about...
The whole of last year, media people wanted us to believe that something big was going to happen in India in 2011. Something that would change the way this country rolls. That would make one go insane with glee. Ok, maybe not that major, but something to that effect.
It was the introduction of the Indian Grand Prix.
